Averitt’s yard management services bring together professional yard drivers, specialized equipment, and advanced visibility tools to keep your trailers exactly where they need to be—at the right door, in the right yard, at the right time.
Whether you operate a high-volume DC, a manufacturing campus, or a multi-building network, we provide a fully outsourced solution that blends yard management, yard switching services, and technology-enabled oversight to streamline your operation and reduce internal burden.
Yard management services encompass everything required to coordinate trailer activity inside your yard—including trailer movement, location tracking, dock assignment, and operational planning.
Averitt provides:
Professional yard switchers / yard jockeys
Yard tractors with hydraulic fifth wheels
On-site operational oversight
Real-time yard visibility through YMS integrations
Flexible trailer capacity
Our goal is simple: keep your production, fulfillment, or distribution operation running at full speed.
Outsource DOT Compliance & Liability
If a yard tractor touches a public street—even briefly—your business must comply with DOT regulations, CDL requirements, and insurance coverage. Averitt eliminates this complexity by handling:
DOT compliance
Driver qualification and training
Insurance and safety requirements
Equipment maintenance and replacement
Our yard tractors feature hydraulic fifth wheels, enabling drivers to lift trailers without manual landing gear cranking. That means:
Faster switches
Less driver strain
Higher throughput
Reduced congestion and wait times
This supports all forms of yard switching services, no matter what terminology a customer uses—yard jockeying, yard spotting, yard mule operations, or yard switcher support.
Averitt integrates with leading yard management systems to help your team:
Track trailer positions across multiple yards or buildings
See load status and trailer availability
Reduce walk-the-yard time
Improve door assignment accuracy
Use geofencing alerts for inbound/outbound moves
This gives your team confidence and control—especially in fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environments.
Many shippers overspend on leased trailers and yard tractors that sit underutilized during slower seasons. Averitt provides a flexible alternative:
Add trailers during peak times
Scale down when demand decreases
Avoid capital purchases or long-term leases
While some providers only pursue large multi-truck yards, Averitt evaluates any opportunity that supports at least one full-time yard driver. Ideal for:
Regional DCs
Large fulfillment campuses
Manufacturing plants
Multi-building operations
Cracker Barrel’s team depends on Averitt for a wide range of services that support their national distribution operation. Yard activities are an important part of that collaboration—but the true value comes from having a single partner who understands their entire network.
Watch how Averitt’s integrated solutions help Cracker Barrel improve visibility, move trailers more efficiently, and keep freight flowing across multiple service lines.
We are Cracker Barrel. We are part restaurant, part retail. We serve great food and great, retail products to our guests across the country. So here at our distribution center, we serve all six hundred and sixty Cracker Barrel stores with their retail product and restaurant supplies. They get a one delivery each week, and Averitt does approximately two thirds of those deliveries for us. So we've done business with Averitt for coming up on twenty five years. And I think the success of that relationship is not only because of Averitt's operational expertise, but for me, I think it really boils down to mutual trust across our organizations that, we're gonna come together and collaboratively solve problems as they arise within the Cracker Barrel supply chain. Again, we trust them that they're gonna have our Integrated mind as we design these mutual solutions. Averitt and Cracker Barrel have have a long standing relationship. Over the years, that relationship has really grown. We've implemented our Averitt Integrated, solution, which is called Averitt Enterprise, which is a transportation management system where we are planning all of the loads outbound for Cracker Barrel. We also have, technology with four kites, a visibility technology, where we are monitoring their POs that originate in China. We are transloading the product from China onto Averitt Trailers in Savannah. And that relationship again, has grown over the years. Very strategic where it seemed like at the beginning, we were doing the basic walking and tackling of delivering the freight to our dedicated division. Now we have this full supply chain, visibility tool that we have in place. These are some examples of some of the outbound loads here. You can see it on the stop level, and see when they arrived, when they departed. And we even do the, on-site as well. And this is the this is the main facility here, district center with all the zones and dock doors. One of the major values that we've we've gotten from our relationship with Averitt Enterprise has been global visibility to our retail product. We've leveraged the enterprise relationship, into a relationship with FourKites that has given us SKU level visibility, to the moment one of our containers crosses the, bow of a ship in in Asia, to the moment that it is in gated into our yard here in Lebanon using a yard management service, and then through this building, and then out into our our stores. So our retail managers to when those items will be arriving at their backdoor. None of that would be possible without our relationship with Averitt Enterprise. Averitt is kind of the glue that holds our supply chain together. Without Averitt, we couldn't get done what we need to get done every day. The benefits are almost immeasurable for us from the relationship the drivers have at the stores with our store managers to Averitt's engineering and technology team. It just drives innovation and continuous improvement throughout our supply chain. So as a person that's responsible for moving goods both within this distribution center and throughout the country in the world, I know that if I have a problem, and the problems are gonna definitely pop up, that if I reach out to Averitt, there's gonna be a person on the end of that line, on the other side of that email, on a text that is going to respond not only appropriately, but also with our best interest at heart and get things done that need to be done to fix that problem. The Averitt Cracker Barrel relationship works because of that trust between the organizations, but also because of Averitt's care. We know and are extremely confident that Averitt cares about doing the right thing for Cracker Barrel, cares about servicing our business, in a way that makes mutual sense and provides mutual value. The relationship between Averitt and Cracker Barrel, I think, has been a success because it's such a fit culturally. It's just a great example of the power of one.
