Not only is Averitt a proud participant in the industry that keeps America rolling, but we also take tremendous pride in our associates who are active members of the nation’s military!
In fact, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program has recognized Averitt as a “Patriotic Employer” on several occasions. This distinguished honor commends our efforts in “contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.”
Averitt’s commitment to providing opportunities to veterans includes:
• CDL skills waiver assistance for veterans with military driving experience.
• Dock-to-driver and driver-to-leadership career paths, encouraging veterans to move up through the ranks to leadership positions.
• Flexible career paths for spouses of veterans and active-duty military, including the ability to transfer between locations and divisions as needed.
• Compensation for leave when called to active-duty or training camp, up to 30 consecutive days, with eligibility to receive the difference between military and Averitt pay.
We're proud to have been recognized by MilitaryFriendly.com as a Military Friendly® Employer, reflecting our deep commitment to supporting service members and their families as they transition to civilian life. For 2025, we've earned the Military Friendly® GOLD Employer award and Military Friendly® Spouse Employer award.
Averitt believes that the contributions and sacrifices made by American veterans and military personnel should never be forgotten when they return home. This especially holds true when they are entering the civilian workforce.
We understand that the challenge of transitioning from a military to civilian profession can often seem overwhelming. At the same time, though, we recognize that many veterans possess several of the skills and characteristics that make them a good fit for the Averitt culture.
Through their service, veterans develop numerous traits that Averitt holds in high regard, including a motivated spirit, self-discipline, a commitment to professionalism, and image and leadership abilities. Knowing this, Averitt emphasizes reaching out to veterans through recruiting efforts at bases across the South and in conjunction with driver training schools.
Averitt offers many career opportunities for military veterans such as driver, leadership, diesel mechanic, and dock worker. Additionally, we work closely with members of the National Guard and other branches to accommodate military leave.

My name is Rob Sanderson. I'm a LTL city driver. I do love running Fort Campbell. It's an honor to be able to run this and deliver things that the soldiers need. Yeah, this is exciting. This is our second delivery of Moon Pies. The first one was a pallet in the back of a pickup truck. So this is a huge step forward on ours. We got eleven pallets today. All of them will go to service members and their families across both Kentucky and Tennessee. One thing that we've always been proud of is our Tennessee roots. So partnering with another company like Chattanooga Bakery specifically delivering these Moon Pies is something that we definitely take pride in. It's really, this is a gift. It looks like it's from Moon Pie, but it's really from schools running a fundraiser and their supporters paying for and giving up their Moon Pies so they can thank our military. So one thing that Averitt is very appreciative of is our veterans. Being veteran owned, having approximately fifteen percent of our associates being veterans and offering extensive benefits to those that have been in the military is something that we're extremely proud of. So to be able to extend that into an active military program such as this is just another opportunity for us to show that appreciation to service members and those in uniform. What you're looking at here is about sixty five thousand moon pies. This right here in cartons will serve they'll be able to gift these out to about ten thousand soldiers. It's an honor to be able to participate in this program. Well, mean, it it is true. When you have when you have Averitt partner with Chattanooga Bakery, you can't get any better than that. I mean, that's just, the sound right there. And now then that I get to not only share that with everybody and deliver these moon pies to help with these soldiers and let them enjoy it, that's the best feeling I can give. Because Moon Pies do, you know, they're kind of funny for years and years and years. They bring a smile to people's faces. Moon pies do make you smile. It's sweet name, it's a cute little pie and they're delicious so why not be able to bring that cheer to service members as they're leaving and coming back from deployment. Just make sure everybody's taken care of and they're appreciated and properly thanked for their bravery and for helping us preserve our freedoms.
