I am 47 years old, and since the age of 19, I’ve wanted to be a truck driver. I earned my CDL class B when I was 20 and learned to drive a dump truck (somewhat), then a few years later earned my CDL Class C w/hazmat. From there I worked with a family member running expedited runs.

My Averitt story began on 10-19-20. I was making a move based on a recommendation from a friend who was already employed with the company and has been for 30 years. I was looking for better home time than I currently had. That was my main concern, and I figured, he’s been here 30 years, must not be too bad.

Averitt was a dream come true for me. When I first started school, I did my fair share of research on different companies. Averitt always came up on top. I told myself I was going to drive for Averitt one day, even if I had to start somewhere else to gain experience, then eventually get on with Averitt Express.

In the beginning, I was attracted to the good-looking red trucks. The side of the trailers read "Our Driving Force Is People."

I came to Averitt in September of 2018, and began my journey in Truckload. I didn’t know what to expect because this is the only trucking company I’ve been with. I had a very good impression of the company from the moment I spoke with a recruiter.

Growing up, I remember driving past Averitt and seeing the campus grow over the years. When my kids grew up and I was ready to re-enter the workforce, many people I knew suggested Averitt.

First of all, we talk culture, and there is no place like Averitt. I worked 8 years in different positions at Averitt before leaving for another company, and at that point I learned how special Averitt was and that our culture was truly a special thing.

I started with Averitt back in December 2015 at the age of 21 and I have been with Averitt ever since. I have learned so much during these 5-1/2 years with Averitt and also from so many of the veteran drivers.

I began my career with Averitt soon after high school when I turned 19 years old. Fast forward 32 years and I'm still here loving everything!

In the summer of 2019, my life and perception of my trucking career was forever changed. That was the year that I started driving for Averitt Express. To tell my story, I have to briefly discuss the very beginning of my trucking journey.
